The strategic development status of domestic special engineering plastics is rising
Special engineering plastics are a kind of engineering plastics with high comprehensive properties and long-term service temperature above 150 ℃. Internationally, special engineering plastics originated in the late 1960s. From polyimide in the 1960s to peek in the early 1980s, large companies in Europe and the United States have carried out a lot of research and development on special engineering plastics. At present, more than ten kinds of varieties with application value and industrialization have been formed, which are widely used in electronics, automobile, aerospace, etc Precision instruments and other high-tech industries.
China's special engineering plastics industry started in the late 1990s. Compared with foreign leading enterprises, the difference is huge, and the industry is in the initial stage of development. Special engineering plastics is a national economic leading industry, which is the key guarantee of high-end manufacturing. The development of special engineering plastics in China is highly valued by the government and various scientific research institutions, and its strategic development status is constantly improving. But so far, it has not formed a large scale.
The market prospect of domestic special engineering plastics is considerable
01 PI: the dependence on import is about 25%, and domestic PI films are gradually replaced by domestic high-end products
Polyimide (PI) is an aromatic heterocyclic polymer compound containing imide ring (- co-nh-co -) in the main chain. It has excellent properties such as high temperature resistance, low temperature resistance, high strength, high modulus, hydrolysis resistance, radiation resistance, corrosion resistance, high electrical insulation and low dielectric constant. It is listed as "one of the most promising engineering plastics in the 21st century".
The raw materials of PI upstream, dianhydride and diamine, were firstly polycondensated in polar solvent at low temperature to obtain the precursor polyamic acid. Then PI was produced by thermal imidization or chemical imidization. The main application forms of PI include thin film, fiber, composite material, engineering plastics, foam and so on. They are widely used in aerospace, electrical insulation, liquid crystal display, microelectronics and other fields.
PI film is the first PI product to realize commercial application. PI film has excellent properties, which is called one of the three bottleneck key polymer materials for the development of high-tech industry in China. According to the application, PI films can be divided into electrical grade PI films for insulation and heat resistance and electronic grade PI films with high flexibility and low expansion coefficient.
The price of electronic grade PI film is high, and it is difficult to enter the industry. At present, it is still a high-tech barrier industry, known as "gold film". 70% of global production is concentrated in the United States, Japan, South Korea and other countries. It is mainly monopolized by DuPont of the United States, Toray of Japan, Kaneka of Japan, Uber of Japan, SKC of Korea and other enterprises, with high capacity concentration and enterprise scale of 2000-3000 tons / year.
China's PI film industry started late. At present, there are about 70 PI film manufacturers in China, with a production capacity of more than 100 tons, mainly used in the low-end market. With the increasing demand for high-end electronic grade PI films in China, domestic enterprises began to enter the high-performance PI film market. At present, the domestic enterprises with large-scale production capacity of electronic grade PI films include time new materials, danbang technology, ruihuatai, as well as Damai technology and Dasheng technology in Taiwan. In 2019, the total production capacity of PI film in China will reach 16000 tons / year, the operating rate will be about 60%, and the output of high-end electronic grade PI film will be less than 1000 tons.
From the demand side, the compound growth rate of domestic demand for PI film from 2016 to 2020 is as high as 10%, and the total demand in 2020 is about 13000 tons. At present, the overall consumption of electronic grade PI film is equivalent to that of electrical grade PI film in China. In the future, with the rapid growth of electronic grade applications such as electronic display, flexible printed circuit (FPC) and thermal conductive graphite film, the consumption scale of electronic grade PI film will further increase, and it is expected to exceed that of electrical grade PI film in 2023. However, there are high technical barriers in equipment, technology and talents of high-end electronic grade PI film, and its development has entered a bottleneck period. In 2020, China's PI film import dependence is about 25%. With the accumulation of relevant R & D and technical talents in China and the favorable effect of downstream key market transferring to the mainland market and relevant policies, China's PI film development will continue to speed up and gradually realize the localization substitution of high-end products.
02 PPA: the import dependence is about 70%, and the domestic demand maintains a growth rate of more than 8%
Semi aromatic polyamide (PPA) is synthesized by condensation of aliphatic diamine or diacid with diacid or diamine containing benzene ring. Compared with aliphatic polyamides, the mechanical strength and heat resistance of aliphatic polyamides are greatly improved due to the introduction of rigid benzene ring in the molecular chain, while the water absorption is greatly reduced; Compared with aromatic polyamide, semi aromatic polyamide has more flexible aliphatic structure in molecular weight and lower melting point, which effectively improves the processing performance of aromatic polyamide. Due to the excellent properties of aromatic polyamide and good processability of aliphatic polyamide, PPA has become one of the most important kinds of special engineering plastics after years of development, and is widely used in the fields of electronic and electrical appliances, automobile industry and so on.
At present, the common PPA varieties in the market are pa4t, PA6T, PA9T, pa10t, pa11t and pa12t, and PA6T is the main one. Because the melting point of homopolymer PA6T is higher than its decomposition temperature, it is necessary to reduce the melting point of the resin by introducing a third monomer. Therefore, the commercial PA6T are all copolymers, such as PA6T / 66, PA6T / 6I, etc.
According to statistics, the total capacity of foreign PPA resin is more than 150000 tons / year, and the development is relatively mature. Major manufacturers include DuPont, DSM, EMS Chemie, Solvay, BASF, Arkema, Mitsui Chemicals and Kuraray. Among them, DSM, as the only company in the world to master the industrialization scheme of butylene diamine, exclusively produces pa4t and other related products; Keli is the only manufacturer of PA9T for a long time by virtue of the unique technology of nondiamine. With the expiration of Keli's PA9T patent, BASF has gradually introduced PA9T related products, while other foreign enterprises mainly produce PA6T products.
The industrialization of PPA in China started late, and there are still few domestic enterprises with PPA production capacity. The main global production capacity and core production technology are in the hands of foreign chemical giants. According to statistics, at present, the total capacity of domestic PPA resin is about 16000 tons / year, and the main manufacturers include Jinfa technology, Jiangmen dezhongtai, Qingdao Sanli and Zhejiang XinHeCheng. Among them, Jinfa technology is the largest PPA resin manufacturer in China, mainly producing pa10t.
From the perspective of the demand side, the domestic demand for PPA will grow by more than 10% from 2016 to 2020, and the demand will reach 33000 tons in 2020. However, due to the lack of competitiveness of domestic PPA products, consumption still relies heavily on imports, and the import dependence will exceed 70%. At present, the consumption of PPA products is mainly concentrated in the fields of electronics, automobile, consumer goods, aerospace and military industry. Among them, electronics and automobile PPA are the most important consumer markets, accounting for more than 85% of the total consumption. It is estimated that in the next five years, China's demand for PPA will maintain a growth rate of more than 8%, and the domestic demand for PPA will reach 50000 tons by 2025. The rapid development of the electronic industry will still be the main driving force for the growth of PPA demand.
03 LCP: the import dependence is about 80%, and the domestic consumption maintains a growth rate of more than 6%
Liquid crystal polymer (LCP) is a kind of aromatic polyester material with a large number of rigid benzene ring structure in the main chain. Under certain conditions, LCP can exist as liquid crystal phase, and its morphology remains stable after cooling and curing. Therefore, LCP material has excellent mechanical properties. In addition, it also has the characteristics of low moisture absorption, high temperature resistance, radiation resistance, hydrolysis resistance, weather resistance, corrosion resistance, natural flame retardancy, low thermal expansion rate, high impact resistance, high stiffness and vibration absorption. It is widely used in electronic and electrical appliances, automotive industry, aerospace, National defense forces and other fields.
At present, the global liquid crystal polymer production capacity is about 78000 tons / year, mainly distributed in the United States, Japan and China. Among them, American and Japanese enterprises account for about 80% of the global total capacity, while China only accounts for about 20%. Major overseas production enterprises include Celanese, Baoli, Sumitomo, Solvay, Toray, etc., among which Celanese and Baoli each account for more than half of the production capacity of the United States and Japan, with a high degree of industry concentration.
China's entry into the LCP field is relatively late. With several projects being put into operation in recent years, the LCP capacity is growing rapidly. By 2020, the domestic LCP capacity will reach 18000 tons / year. The main production enterprises include wute Co., Ltd., Jinfa technology, Pulit and Jujia new materials. Wute Co., Ltd. is the largest LCP production enterprise in China, with a total capacity of 8000 tons / year, accounting for about 45% of the total capacity of the country.
From the demand side, the domestic demand for LCP in 2020 is about 30000 tons. Affected by technology and product quality factors, domestic consumption is highly dependent on imports, and the import dependence is about 80%. From the perspective of consumption structure, electronic and electrical appliances are the main consumption field of LCP, accounting for about 80% of the total consumption. They are mainly used for the production of connectors on various types of electronic equipment. At present, the total consumption in 5g communication field is less than 1000 tons. Driven by the "new infrastructure", it is estimated that in the next five years, the consumption growth rate of LCP in the 5g communication field will reach more than 30%, and the consumption will reach 4000 tons by 2025. Overall, it is estimated that the total consumption of LCP will still maintain a growth rate of more than 6% in the future driven by the demand in the fields of electronics and automobile, and the total consumption will exceed 40000 tons by 2025.
04 Peek: import dependence is about 75%, and domestic demand growth rate is as high as 15% ~ 20%
Poly (ether ether ketone) (PEEK) is a semi crystalline, thermoplastic aromatic polymer material, which is the main variety of poly (aryl ether ketone) (Paek) series polymers. Peek molecular chain contains a large number of benzene rings, which has excellent physical and chemical properties such as heat resistance, wear resistance, fatigue resistance, radiation resistance, peeling resistance, creep resistance, etc., and its two ether bonds and carbonyl groups bring flexibility and excellent processability. It has been widely used in many fields, such as electronics, electronics, aerospace, automobile, energy and other industries, medical treatment, etc.
Peek engineering plastics have excellent properties, but there are limitations in some extreme harsh conditions. The mechanical properties of PEEK composites reinforced with glass fiber (GF) and carbon fiber (CF) can be greatly improved. Currently, there are three main types of peek on the market: PEEK pure resin, glass fiber modified peek and carbon fiber modified peek.
Peek was first developed by ICI in the late 1970s. Subsequently, its peek business was acquired by Victrex. At present, Victrex is the world's largest peek producer with a production capacity of about 7000 tons per year, accounting for about 60% of the global total production capacity. The world's second and third largest producers are Solvay and Evonik, respectively. Solvay's peek production capacity reaches 1500 T / A, mainly supplying Apple mobile phones. Evonik production capacity is about 1250 T / A, mainly exporting to Europe and other countries.
China's peek technology development started late, and Jilin University is the representative research and development institution of domestic peek industry. China's peek production capacity is mainly concentrated in Zhongyan, Zhejiang pengfulong and Changchun Jida tesu, accounting for 80% of China's total production capacity, of which Zhongyan's production capacity reaches 1000 tons / year, ranking first in the country. At present, domestic products are inferior to imported products in continuous production and quality control, and there is a big gap with leading foreign-funded production enterprises. In the next five years, China's peek production capacity will continue to expand. At present, wiggs and Xingfu chemical have announced the establishment of a joint venture in Panjin, which is expected to build a 1500 T / a peek production capacity.
From the demand side, the domestic demand for peek will grow by 20% from 2016 to 2020, and the demand in 2020 will be about 1450 tons. The consumption of products is mainly concentrated in the fields of electronics, automobile, aerospace and military industry. On the one hand, with the rapid development of electronic information technology in recent years, the trend of integration and miniaturization of electronic components has brought opportunities for the consumption of PEEK resin; On the other hand, the excellent comprehensive performance of PEEK material is in line with the lightweight demand of transportation industry. It is estimated that in the next five years, China's demand for peek will still maintain a growth rate of 15% ~ 20%, and the domestic demand for peek will reach about 3000 tons by 2025.
China's special engineering plastics industry is in the initial stage of development
At present, the industrialization of PI, PPA, LCP, peek and other varieties has been initially realized in China. Due to the late start of research and development of special engineering plastics, there is a big gap compared with foreign advanced level, the industry as a whole is still in the early stage of development, and few domestic enterprises have the right to speak in the industry. There are two reasons:
01:In China, the accumulation of original technology is weak, the stability of product batches is poor, and the key core products are highly dependent on imports;
02:Domestic downstream demand is relatively lagging, which limits the development of upstream material industry, and the demand for high-end applications lags behind that of foreign developed countries.
Domestic special engineering plastics usher in great development opportunities
In terms of policy, special engineering plastics provide a key guarantee for the development of national economy, the upgrading of high-end manufacturing industry and the construction of national defense industry. It is a key product in the national strategic emerging industry. In order to promote its industrialization process, the state has issued a series of favorable policies《 The development guide of new material industry takes engineering plastics as the key point of advanced basic materials, aiming at improving the international competitiveness of materials《 The application and development of special engineering plastics are also continuously encouraged by industrial policies such as the first batch application and demonstration directory of key new materials and the classification of strategic emerging industries.
From the demand side, the global demand for special engineering plastics is steadily increasing year by year, especially the domestic market demand is growing rapidly, and the development prospect is considerable. With the development of domestic new energy vehicles, 5g communication technology and "two new and one heavy" (new infrastructure construction, new urbanization construction, transportation, water conservancy and other major engineering construction), the demand for high-performance materials will increase.
