FEP (perfluoroethylene propylene copolymer), English name is fluorinated ethylene propylene, commonly known as F46. FEP is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene (TPFE) and hexafluoropropylene. The melting point of FEP crystallization is 304 ℃, and the density is 2.15g/cc (g / cm3).
FEP can be applied to soft plastics, and its tensile strength, wear resistance and creep resistance are lower than many engineering plastics. It has good chemical inertia, wide temperature and frequency range, and low dielectric constant. Therefore, FEP film is widely used in chemical and drug sealing layer, capacitor medium, special cable insulation layer, conductor insulation, electrical instrument insulation and sealing gasket. In the era of 5g communication, FEP film is also widely used in FCCL insulation.
Insulation performance:
The electrical insulation performance of FEP material is very similar to that of polytetrafluoroethylene (TPFE). Its dielectric coefficient is almost constant in a wide range from Cryogenic to high operating temperature, from 100Hz to 1MHz UHF, and is very low, as shown in the change of dielectric constant of FEP film in the above figure. The dielectric loss tangent changes with frequency, but it does not change with temperature.
The volume resistivity of FEP resin is very high, up to 1018 Ω· m, and changes little with temperature, and is not affected by water and moisture. When the arc resistance is greater than 165S, the breakdown field of FEP increases with the decrease of thickness. When the thickness is greater than 1mm, the breakdown field strength is more than 30KV / mm, but does not change with the change of temperature.
Chemical stability:
The chemical stability of FEP resin is similar to that of polytetrafluoroethylene and has excellent chemical stability. In addition to reacting with fluorine, molten alkali metal and chlorine trifluoride at high temperature, it will not be corroded in contact with other chemicals.
Mechanical properties:
Compared with polytetrafluoroethylene, FEP resin has slightly higher hardness and tensile strength, and slightly higher friction coefficient than polytetrafluoroethylene. FEP has good creep resistance at room temperature; However, when the temperature is higher than 100 ℃, the creep resistance is lower than that of PTFE.
In addition, because of the good performance of FEP, it is also widely compounded with PI film and LCP film in the electronic communication industry to improve the comprehensive performance of products.
